This place is a gem for environmental education, photography, wildlife viewing, an interpretation. Riparian woodlands live in the refuge and they have been restored within its boundaries. Many birds live in the ecosystem, as does an endangered rabbit. The land is the meeting place of three rivers: Tulomne, Stanislaus and San Joaquin. The refuge is about 16 miles from Salida.
Yosemite
Salida is only about 82 miles from Yosemite, which is one of the most visited national parks in the United States. So, moving to Salida would bring you closer to it and the Sierra in general. You can also drive through the park and on the east side, you will find Mono Lake, Mammoth and Bishop.
